The One Thing

Have you read The One Thing?

It’s one of those books entrepreneurs rave about, so I started it this morning. And honestly—it’s good. Really good. The graphics are clear and precise, which I appreciate. But I don’t love how some text is pre-underlined. Like, how do they know what I think is important?

It made me think about dogs. We do the same with them sometimes—assigning them personalities and ideas that may or may not reflect what’s really going on. Do we actually know what they value?

I spend a lot of time watching my dogs and sheep—how they move, interact, or just are.

Rylee values freedom, but her one thing is me. Bella lives to work sheep, but her one thing is working with me. Emma loves watching sheep, but right now, her one thing is Bella.

I’m helping Emma learn to make better decisions.

Bella isn’t her biggest fan, and I won’t force Emma to choose me. That has to come from her. But with each session, she edges closer to me.
